3 - Therapy
Vibroacoustic therapy (VAT) is a science-based therapy that uses mild sound and gentle vibrations to reduce stress, relieve pain, restore balance and enhance the quality of life. VAT frequencies range between 30Hz and 120Hz and are applied directly to the body through special speakers called transducers. The transducers can be embedded within some sort of furniture such as portable mats, mattresses, massage tables, custom tables with water bladders, beds and recliners.
As a person’s body has contact with the embedded speakers, the music is sent from the source into the transducers and is then felt by the body as vibration and heard by the ears as sound. The vibro-tactile input stimulates nerve bundles along the spine, up into the brain stem and then through the limbic system. In addition, the sound stimulates the medulla in the brain stem and activates the auditory nerve that connects with all the muscles of the body.
These reactions signal the body to relax and flood the brain with mood lifting chemicals. In addition, the low frequencies also cause a relaxation of the tissues, and a dilation of blood vessels and an opening of the lymphatic pathways which in turn increases the body’s ability to heal.
Vibroacoustic therapy (VAT) has been studied by researchers worldwide including the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NIH reports the benefits of using VAT for Parkinson’s, PTSD, anxiety, physical injuries, brain function, COPD, asthma and much more.
Our RestStation's major benefit is the calming effect the system has on clients and thereby assisting them with the relief from anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD, autism and learning difficulties, dementia, stress, pain, insomnia, and more. The client is brought into a meditative state, which usually takes about ten (10) - fifteen (15) minutes, and the binaural beats and healing frequencies trigger the body’s natural relaxation response.
When vibroacoustic therapy is used in conjunction with other vibrational/energy healing modalities, such as our bioenergetic therapy based on NES' Infoceuticals, miHealth biofeedback, PEMF, Rife frequencies and BioScalar Infusion therapy, this creates what Don Estes calls “Sensory Resonance”, where the individual is bathed in harmonic frequencies that integrate the whole brain and body into a state of peace and calm. When the mind and body are in a calm state, all kinds of health benefits can occur.
Vibroacoustic therapy (VAT) has an immediate and pleasurable effect, but some effects can appear several hours, often days, after the therapy session.
Repeated therapy sessions will increase the cumulative effect of the therapy series. Research shows best results occur with cumulative sessions for between 10 - 12 weeks. We recommend a minimum treatment schedule of 8 weeks for the majority of cases, either once (1) or twice (2) per week. More chronic conditions require two (2) - three (3) times per week.
Clients remove only their shoes and recline on our RestStation lounge chair. Then they put on the provided stereo headphones and sleep mask (optional). Once we make sure you are comfortable, the practitioner chooses the music protocol to address the issues indicated, turns on the equipment and makes sure the headphone volume levels are comfortable for you.
You will begin to feel the gentle vibrational frequencies through the RestStation's special speaker system, called transducers, and hear the soothing music as well as any guided meditation (as applicable) through the headphones.
If you are scheduled for a vibroacoustic therapy (VAT) session without combining another service, your practitioner then leaves you in the room to enjoy your session for the scheduled time. It usually takes about ten (10) to fifteen (15) minutes for the relaxation response to begin in the body and clients report feeling many pleasant sensations. Abstract thinking slows and body and mind awareness expands. Some people experience a dream-like, or deep meditative state. Others fall asleep, report seeing colors, experience clarity and new insight and feel relief of pain or symptoms. If your protocol includes a guided meditation, then they create a completely relaxed state of mind before powerful and positive affirmations are delivered utilizing a unique echo effect. It's this unique combination that helps clients overcome deep rooted, negative patterns of thoughts and behavior.
If your appointment combines vibroacoustic therapy (VAT) with another service like a Total Wellness Session, your practitioner will guide you through the process of all therapy elements in conjunction with your VAT.
When the session is over, the practitioner will return to the room to gently turn down the vibrational frequencies and music.
The impact of your session is usually long lasting. Many clients report feeling the impact for between two (2) and four (4) days after therapy. Your body will experience deep relaxation similar to a full night’s sleep, which promotes less stress during the day and sounder sleep at night.
More than 40,000 hours of therapy have been provided to patients in Europe and USA. There is not a single report of risk or mishap. No significant adverse effects have also been found. However, some patients may experience nausea during the first couple of sessions.
However, as precaution for our clients we do not perform vibroacoustic therapy (VAT) under the following circumstances:
- Individuals with pacemakers
- Individuals with very low blood pressure
- Individuals with a DVT, bleeding disorder, or recent surgery
- Individuals who have had a recent psychotic episode (active or borderline psychosis)
- Individuals with open wounds, external or internal bleeding (except menstrual)
- Individuals who have had a recent thrombosis
- Women who are pregnant (not because side-effects have been experienced, but because we are cautious!)
If any of these conditions apply to you, please let us know before you schedule an appointment or therapy begins.
